FILMING EQUIPMENT

When I first started considering uploading content of any kind, I had no idea how expensive and complicated getting set up would be. My best advice now to anyone looking at taking the leap would be simple. Dont buy the most expensive but do consider what you will need if what you are doing takes off. Sounds simple right?

The best upgrade I have made is going from the Rode shotgun Mic to the Rode wireless. As lots of people told me, viewers are more forgiving of slightly amateur visuals but they will soon click away if the sound is not right. The wireless mics have elevated the speaking part of my videos no end.

As for lighting, dont splurge on fancy lights from the get go, learn to use the camera setting first (something I did not do), then buy a few lights at a time and figure out how to arrange them for the best picture quality. Everything I use is below. Including the super cool clamps that allow me to mount my camera or phone pretty much anywhere.

That reminds me, all close ups that I do, I do on my phone. That way I can leave the Canon for more speaking filming and be far more mobile, pardon the pun, with my phone camera.

A great starter camera. It does everything that I need right now and takes no time to learn.

Easy to mount your phone and use the camera. Attach it to the small rig seen next door and you have the perfect combo.

Simply brilliant. Not the cheapest but the fact that they record to their own hard drive incase you forget to press record is a major plus.

Attach your phone for camera to a shelf, your workbench or the side of your lighting tripod. Even a tree when building your workshop.

Great for capturing shop sounds and general tool noise. ASMR is your friend

I have mounted mine from the ceiling with the brackets below. These are light and bright
